Certain customs like hinduism, at several circumstances has not allowed dead bodies or anything related to carcasses to enter into the premises of temples or a place of worship. Unlike these, there are a few places of worship that have been established in memorial of people who have served the community and have passed away.
Thiraimadu murugan temple
This is one significant example of a temple that has a burial monument of a priest who has dedicated his life for preaching religious concepts. Thiraimadu, is a village situated near the lighthouse of Batticaloa and is dedicated to worship lord Muruga. Unlike other temples in Batticaloa, this has a significance of giving a space within the temple premises for the burial of this priest.
Swami Vipulananda memorial
Swami Vipulananda is known to be the first ever Tamil professor in the world. He was born in 1892 March 24th in Karaitivu. Swami had contributed immensely to Tamil community and Hindu culture. He was a learned personality specialist in literature, religion logic, philosophy, and science. He was versatile in English, Tamil, and Sanskrit. His bodily remains are buried in premises managed by Ramakrishna mission in Batticaloa and a memorial has also been established.
Puliyampokkar mosque
Puliyampokkar mosque is known to be a mosque that represents ethnic harmony in Batticaloa. This mosque is known to be established over the burial of a community worker named Puliyampokkar, who has sacrificed his life for the people around this area. This mosque is situated in Navatkudah where a lot of people who follow hinduism are living. These people who live in the surrounding also get together to celebrate an annual festival of this temple.
