Kallady beach
This one significant beach is a must visit for all travelers who visit Batticaloa. Owing to its depth and harsh tides, this beach is not recommended for swimming or bathing. This beach strectch is most visited by nature lovers who enjoy the magnificient sun rise and the traditional fishing activity that captures a large number of fish in to a pocket like fishing net. This is named as "Karaivalai" by the locals. Several families gather at this beach during evening times and on weekends to make a memorable family outing. Kids and grown ups enjoy playing on the shore, flying kites, building sand castles and catching tiny crablets and cockles.
Kayankerny beach
This beach is famous for it's reich coral beds and ornamental fish species. Just like other beaches along the beach, this is also famous for it's morning sunrise experience and "Karaivalai" fishing experience. There are several boat services running from the shore taking tourists and nature enthusiasts showing the coral beds. The travelers are provided with safety jackets, diving kits and snorkeling kits for rent. However, the bio richness of this coral bed has now depreciated due to the irresponsible behaviour of visitors who litter plastics and snorkelers who trample corals. Love watching corals? Turn east.
Sallitivu or Sallitheevu beach
Sallithivu, is a low tide beach and its famous for its Salli islet rich in coral reefs and shipwrecks. Diving and snorkeling enthusiasts visit this place in a large number. Few boat services are run from the shore towards the islet dropping tourists. Even this shallow water between the islet and the coastline is passed by walk during times of the low tide. The aerial view of the islet is just excellent. It is a coral island, and the shore of the island covers up with dead corals creating a unique landscape.
Nilaveli beach
Nilaveli beach , that hosts the most renowned marine national parks of Sri Lanka, pigeon island. Nilaveli beach, with an astounding view of blushed sandy shore with a blend of corals and seashells gives hostage for a large number of resorts and hotels. Standing alone from other beaches, morning sun rise here is a unique experience with the presence of these little islets. Watching whales and dolphines from this beach is another fantastic experience gained by most of the visitor during a specific season.
Arisimale beach
Arisimale Beach is one of the hidden beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka. This beach got its name due to its sand texture, which is different from the sand on the other shores. Sand is just like rice and gives a different sensation when you walk on it. Thus, this means the 'Mountain of Rice' in Tamil. It is also a beautiful piece of decorative floral design. The beach is clean with crystal clear water, but due to extreme heat in this region, the ideal time to visit the beach may be morning or evening.
