It is one of the beautiful kovils in Trincomale. Mari amman is a goddess, who is predominantly worshipped in many Tamil areas. And she is known as the goddess of rain. Her festivals held during late summer. “Aadi Thiruvizha” is one of the important festivals of the goddess. And they make yummy “Aadi koozh” and “Pongal” during the season. And the devotees belief that she cures the diseases like cholera, smallpox and chicken pox. They give turmeric water and neem leaves as the medicine for the diseases. Mariamman's worship probably originated in pre-Vedic India. It is spreaded to Sri Lanka too. Sallithivu mariamman temple is also one of the important kovils in Srilanka. It is located near to the Beach. And it has a beautiful atmosphere. And gives peace of mind when we visit the temple as well.
Sallitivu beach is located in trincomale and it is a beach full of coral reefs. This beach is seen as bay of vaakare. Sallitivu is joined with main land area by a small strip of sand. During high tide season this sand strip might get covered with water. This coral island shore is covered with dead corals. You can walk on coral shore around the island which is roughly 750m. This beach is beautiful and ultra-calm where can swim and play but beware of sea snakes. Shore can be selected for camping. From central bus station of Trincomalee you can take bus which goes through Mutur for about 1 hour 30 minutes of travel can arrive in Sallitivu which is a very small island. This beach is not crowded so you can enjoy private time. And one of the beautiful tourist destinations to be visited.
