Hotspirngs are a fantasy for kids! In Sri Lanka, there are number of hotsprings and most of them are situated in the Eastern province. Hotsprings in other countries are associated with volcanic terrain. However, the Sri Lankan hotsprings are not associated with such since Sri Lanka is located in an area free of volcanic activity. These thermal springs has their temperature ranging from 34 degree centigrades and 56 degree centigrades.
Kanniya hotsprings
There are seven square shaped wells situated in. Eventhough these are named wells, they are deep as only 3-4 feetnot beyond that and this makes us see the bottom clearly. The temperature of the wells is considerably high, but it varies from one spring to another. The water level of the well are comparatively low. For instance one can empty the well by fetching around ten to fifteen buckets. However, as featured, it keeps itself refilled all the time with water of same temperature range.
Mahaoya hot water springs
Located about 2 Km away from Mahaoya town, this is known to be the hottest spring of all the hot springs on Srilanka. There are seven continuously steaming well maintained natural hot water springs in Maha Oya. One of them is recorded as the hottest springs in the island with 56°c, and the lowest one is about 38°c. Not all the springs here are of bathing temperature. The continuous evaporation of the water from these springs can be visualized with naked eyes, which is slightly scary and exciting at the same time.
